Putting a Lid on Second Graders

Elementary School second-graders. In what’s known as the Tiger Cubs and Caps project, the high-school students write their “buddies” during the school year. They also knit two caps each for the youngsters. The buddies eventually meet at the elementary school to deliver the caps. Awareness, Nutrition and Meals

To raise awareness of the growing number of local families with insufficient sources of food, Kaitlyn Hermansen, Marian Yalong and Regina Yoo (pictured left to right) created the #SayNo2Hunger social media campaign in conjunction with Giving Tuesday’s “unselfie” behavior campaign. Besides creating awareness of the issue, the Bergen County (N.J.) Academies SkillsUSA chapter wanted to teach the community the importance of eating properly and provide food to those in need through a food drive for the Center for Food Action. Students Who Study Technical Education May Earn More

A new white paper, entitled “Preparing our Students for Career Success – What Parents Should Know” examines the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard and U.S. labor market trends to provide insights on choosing educational paths that lead to well-paying jobs. The analysis finds that students who choose an industry-aligned technical education can go on to earn more than their peers at some of the nation’s most-selective liberal arts universities. They Bagged It for the Needy

At Niagara Career and Technical Education Center in Sanborn, N.Y., SkillsUSA advisor Scott Brauer asked members to collect food and organize it in bags. Students made the rounds at school, shared the importance of helping the pantry and asked for donations. Each grocery bag represented a meal for a needy family. The result was 1,000 pounds of food in bags for 150 meals delivered to the local food pantry. Pictured above, students shared a sign of their hard work. Making Waves with a Big Win in Honolulu

Graphic communications students at Admiral Arthur W. Radford High School won first place in the Student Print Project Design, Planning and Production category of the PrintROCKS awards. Sponsored by Pacific Printing Industries (PPI) Association, an affiliate of Printing Industries of America, this award qualifies them for the student category of the Benny Awards, part of the International Premier Print Awards competition. Access to Water, Hope for Life

When people collect drinking water in developing countries, their journey can cover many miles to and from rivers or streams, sometimes in perilous conditions. At Frederick (Md.) Career and Technology Center, CAD-engineering students have been testing new designs to more easily move water collection barrels. They plan to send their handle design prototype to the Hippo Water Roller Project in South Africa by year’s end.
