Drafting a Place to Live

High School engineering and design pathway, seniors are using Revit, architecture design software to design their own campus homes. Students create floor plans in 2-D while simultaneously creating a 3-D model of the structure of the house. These home designs may eventually be constructed on the residential campus by students in the construction and carpentry pathway. Students, many coming from impoverished backgrounds, are using hands-on STEM skills to design beautiful homes while studying for the Revit certification exam. To learn more... Read More

Baking Goods for the Homeless

Davis High School in Yakima, Wash., teamed with fellow students to create goody bags for the homeless. Each included two carrot muffins baked by the students plus packets of instant hot chocolate and oatmeal, bottled water and disposable cups, spoons and napkins. A total of 121 bags were delivered to a local homeless shelter and distributed for breakfast. The project earned a national bronze medal in SkillsUSA’s Community Action Contest. Motors to Build Skills and Partners

At SkillsUSA’s national conference, instructor Mike Howington made a connection with representatives from Harley-Davidson Inc. Returning home to Tazewell (Va.) County Career and Technical Center, he was offered 20 Harley powertrains for his program in small engine and motorcycle repair. With approval from the school administration, the motors were transported from Milwaukee to Tazewell by staff from neighboring Hawg Pit Cycles, a program supporter in Bluefield, W.Va. They’re Making Spirits Bright

The holidays always bring opportunities for SkillsUSA chapters to shine by serving others. Students at Westlake High School in Atlanta (top photo) adopted two families this season. Students and teachers worked together to shop for and wrap toys, clothes and coats for those in need. At Technical College High School in West Grove, Pa., SkillsUSA students at the Pennock’s Bridge Campus helped with their community’s annual Holiday Hope Chest (bottom photo).
