In 2015, SkillsUSA launched its free member resource Jump into STEM!, a curriculum developed for high-school students to use when mentoring elementary-school students on future career-path options. Based on the huge success of the elementary-school edition, SkillsUSA has released 22 new Jump into STEM! lessons designed to provide opportunities to engage middle-school students in STEM-related activities. The curriculum now provides tools and activities for SkillsUSA members to help both elementary- and middle-school students take part in interactive career experiences. More Access To Manufacturing Jobs

Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) introduced legislation to help students access good-paying American manufacturing jobs by creating partnerships between high schools, community colleges, and state apprenticeships. According to the Department of Labor, workers who complete apprenticeships earn $50,000 annually on average. The Youth Access to American Jobs Act would support students starting in high school, through an associate’s degree and into an apprenticeship – helping them become job-ready quickly and effectively. “More students need access to STEM education pathways into manufacturing jobs. TCAT efforts help Tennessee Victims ofFire

After wildfires struck the Gatlinburg, Tenn., area, staff and students at the Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology (TCAT) campuses took action. Help for fire victims in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Using borrowed trucks as well as tractor-trailers from their truck-driving programs, the campuses collected 28,541 personal and household items — including blankets, clothes, toiletries and toys.
