“Attracting the Next Generation” Report Shows Value of SkillsUSA Within Career and Technical Education Leesburg, Va. — SkillsUSA membership increases career and technical students’ likelihood of continuing in the career they are studying, according to new research by The Manufacturing Institute. The institute’s report, “Attracting the Next Generation Workforce: The Role of Career and Technical Education,” was based on surveys conducted by the Educational Research Center of America (ERCA) in collaboration with SkillsUSA. Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, in partnership with JPMorgan Chase & Co., has released new research that finds that even with the overall decline in manufacturing, nearly half of states have added good blue-collar jobs that don’t require bachelor’s degrees (BAs).  Good Jobs that Pay without a BA: A State-by-State-Analysis finds that since 1991, workers with associate’s degrees have claimed a rising share of good jobs in every state. SkillsUSA WorldTeam Earns Four Medallions of Excellence at International Competition for Young Skilled Workers

Highlights Importance of a Competitive, Highly Skilled Workforce Leesburg, Va. — The SkillsUSA WorldTeam received four Medallions of Excellence in the WorldSkills Competition Oct. 14-19. SkillsUSA represents the United States and sent a team of 11 to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to compete in 10 skill categories during the 44th biennial event. SkillsUSA competitor Jordan Baker was featured in The Wall Street Journal on Oct. 30 in an article, “The Thrill of Victory in Welding, Baking and Bricklaying,” about the recent WorldSkills competition, held Oct. 14-19 in Abu Dhabi. Baker practiced nearly daily for more than six months on bread-making techniques under the close eye of her technical expert. The 2017 WorldSkills Competition ended this evening at du Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. While the SkillsUSA WorldTeam did not receive Gold, Silver or Bronze, we did receive four medallions of excellence: Chandler Vincent, Welding Krzysztof Zamajtys, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Asher Chicoine, Plumbing and Heating Kylie Burkey, Hairdressing Chandler Vincent also received Best in the Nation for Welding. Lowe’s Gives Grants to Support Local SkillsUSA Chapters in Applying Learnings to Community Projects
