What is SkillsUSA Career Essentials?

The SkillsUSA Career Essentials suite produces career-ready graduates who are prepared to face the 21st-century demands of employers. The suite ensures students have the foundational skills, attitudes and values to distinguish them from other applicants in the skilled labor marketplace.

SkillsUSA Career Essentials was built by career readiness experts, and it engages students in defining, implementing and measuring their career-readiness skills along every point of their educational journeys, from middle-school to the high-school and college/postsecondary levels, including adult learners. The suite is comprised of three areas:

  • Foundations (builds an awareness of the SkillsUSA Framework)
  • Experiences (project-based learning experiences that contextualize the Essential Elements of the Framework in real-work situations)
  • Assessments (provides a path to other professional certifications)

As a whole, the SkillsUSA Career Essentials suite generates high levels of student engagement and is built on evidence-based outcomes that support the industry-validated Career Ready Assessment. Further, curricula and assessments culminate in students earning the industry-recognized Career Essentials credential. For full details, visit careeressentials.org.

Discounted Offers

The current pandemic has forced local administrators and teachers to quickly move their courses to virtual/online environments. To help meet the needs of our students and educators during this challenging time, SkillsUSA is extending a special offer of support, offering two of our SkillsUSA Career Essentials: Experiences courses (exploratory and fundamental) for purchase in smaller, deeply discounted segments. See course segment descriptions and pricing information below.
(*For an important note on why we are currently unable to offer these items for free, please see below.)

These SkillsUSA Career Essentials: Experiences courses

  • Include curriculum bundle options that contain a pre-assessment, post-assessment, and course with unit pre-/post-tests (quizzes)
  • Are project-based and able to be completed individually with access to the internet and a device (if teachers have time ahead of a school closure, they could also prepare students to work without a device or internet until their return)
  • Develop and assess the Framework skills

To purchase and use these segmented bundles, teachers and/or administrators will need an account at mycareeressentials.org. Those without an account can click the “Getting Started” tile at mycareeressentials.org for instructions on setting one up. Those with an account will have access to their catalog after logging in and will be able to select their resource of choice.

All SkillsUSA Career Essentials resources are Perkins-eligible from a federal perspective. Please work with your local or state-level administrators to determine opportunities for using Perkins funding for these purchases.

If you or your stakeholders have questions about this special support opportunity, please direct inquiries to careeressentials@skillsusa.org.

  • *An important note regarding this offer: SkillsUSA contracted with a third-party learning management system to house and deliver the SkillsUSA Career Essentials curricula, and we incur a fee for each person who accesses the system. Consequently, we were unable to offer these resources for free. Instead, we’ve chosen the next best option available to us: offering them at the lowest rate possible that still allows us to cover a portion of our associated organizational costs and remain fiscally responsible to our members. For other options on free e-learning resources, please explore the links on the new CTE Coalition page.
