Harbor Freight Tools for Schools National Championship Scholarship

SkillsUSA is proud to announce, in partnership with Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, a scholarship opportunity for SkillsUSA members. Eligible members can apply to receive up to $1,500 to assist in attending the 2019 National Leadership and Skills Conference. Applications will be accepted from March 15 –May 10, 2019. Recipients will be announced May 15, 2019. Refer to Scholarship Application for full details including eligibility.

Eligibility

Awards from the fund will be open to students who are:

  1. members of SkillsUSA chapters at public high schools in the United States,
  2. eligible to compete on behalf of their state in the SkillsUSA 2019 NLSC, and are
  3. registered to compete in the following contests at the 2019 NLSC:
  • Architectural Drafting
  • Cabinetmaking
  • Carpentry
  • Electrical Construction Wiring
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR)
  • Masonry
  • Plumbing
  • Sheet Metal
  • TeamWorks
  • Welding
  • Welding Fabrication
  • Welding Sculpture
  • Additive Manufacturing
  • CNC Milling Technology
  • CNC Technician
  • CNC Turning Technology
  • Industrial Motor Control
  • Major Appliance and Refrigeration Technology
  • Mechatronics
  • Residential Systems Installation and Maintenance
  • Automotive Refinishing Technology
  • Automotive Service Technology
  • Aviation Maintenance Technology
  • Collision Repair Technology

Students eligible to compete at the 2019 NLSC in the following contests may receive scholarships from the fund, provided they were enrolled in one of the skilled trades program areas listed above during the 2018-2019 school year:

Application Process

  • The scholarship application will be open for submissions from eligible members from March 15 until May 10, 2019.
  • All applicants must complete the electronic application
  • Upon the completion of the application period, applications will be evaluated based on the following general criteria:
    • Student’s commitment to the values exhibited in the SkillsUSA creed
    • Strong support from student’s SkillsUSA advisor
    • Student’s commitment to improving his or her community, and to supporting his or her fellow students
    • Demonstration of significant financial need
  • No recipient shall receive more than $1,500.00 in the aggregate
  • If applicant receives the scholarship funds, they agree to:
    • Use funds for reasonable and appropriate costs of travel to and from, lodging for and the cost of registration for the 2019 NLSC, as described in this application
    • Fully execute any photography and videography waivers provided by SkillsUSA or Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, and
    • If applicable, meet with representatives of the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools at the 2019 NLSC.

Selections will be based on

  • Eligibility of chapter, as defined above
  • Completion of this application
