National Competition Location Requirements Announced

Contestant location requirements have been announced for the SkillsUSA Championships. All competitions in the “Skilled” category must be conducted at an on-site location. While many competitions in the “Leadership” and “Occupationally Related” categories may performed from contestants’ homes, there are several exceptions. Watch for National Highlights of National Signing Day on May 4

SkillsUSA National Signing Day (NSD) returns on May 4. Be on the lookout for national coverage, including a May 4 live spot on “Good Morning America,” which  airs from 7 a.m. – 9 a.m. ET on ABC. (Set your DVRs if you can’t watch live.) NFL quarterback Jimmy Garapolo and former Pittsburgh-Steelers-great Jerome Bettis will also be serving as spokespeople for the event, generating even more visibility. Consider sharing photos/videos of your own NSD events with the national office. Upload them directly to Karen Kitzel, associate director of Communications.

Save the Date! SkillsUSA Awards and Recognition Session

SkillsUSA will be hosting the Awards and Recognition Session LIVE on Thursday, June 24, from 3:30 – 8 p.m. ET. Please encourage your students, state officers, board members and state DOE officials to join chapters from across your state in watching what will be an unforgettable Awards and Recognition session. More information and guidelines can be found in the April 30 Friday Flash. SkillsUSA is also offering a $100 watch party grant opportunity for chapters and state associations. For chapters, the grant is limited to the first 50 requests, and for state associations, the first 20.

Leverage Scholarship Deadline is Near

The SkillsUSA Leadership Development Scholarship provides financial support for over 100 state officers to participate in Leverage leadership training each summer, opening doors for participation in training to enhance every state officer’s future path. State directors must submit the applications for their state officers, and the deadline is May 7. Visit our website for all currently available scholarships.

Revisit our FY20 Impact

SkillsUSA’s latest Impact Report has been released. This compact but comprehensive report looks back at our membership and financial statistics for FY20 and includes messages from our leadership, a list of major program updates and a view of our overall mission progress during the last completed fiscal year. Feel free to download and share this stakeholder resource.

National Officer Program Guide Updates

The 2021-22 National Officer Program Guide has been updated to reflect the training and travel requirements for the 2021-22 SkillsUSA national officer team. All event dates listed are mandatory; however, the attendance type (virtual or in-person) is subject to change based on pandemic status. In the application process, a support letter from both the student’s advisor and school administrator is required. As a reminder, the deadline for national officer applications is 6 p.m. ET on June 1. Contact Tyler Chaffin, program manager of Student Initiatives, with any questions.

2021 National Conference Schedule Available

SkillsUSA’s National Leadership and Skills Conference may be virtual this year, but the building excitement is the real deal. Along with a full SkillsUSA Championships, the conference will include delegate sessions, national officer elections and opportunities for leadership development, professional development and member or chapter recognition.
