NLSC Recognition Session Video and Awards Book

SkillsUSA honored over 1,000 individuals at the 2021 National Leadership and Skills Conference Awards and Recognition Session on June 24, including national medalists in 107 skill and leadership events, the Advisor of the Year, Outstanding Educators, Models of Excellence schools, Honorary Life recipients and President’s Volunteer Service Award winners. And, the 2021-22 SkillsUSA National Officer team was announced. If you missed it, view the session here. You can also still download the Awards and Recognition Book here.

National Medalists Say “Thank You”

Conducting local, state and national competitions was a challenge unlike any the organization has ever faced. But, thanks to all of you, it was a challenge SkillsUSA overcame. Now, more than 100 SkillsUSA national medalists want to say thank you for all the work that went into making their medals possible. We weren’t expecting the video to be this long, but that just speaks to the level of life-changing work you all do every day. View the video here, and please share with anyone else in your state who would benefit from hearing these heartfelt messages.

2021 SkillsUSA Championships Medallion Shipping and Results

Unless a state director requested bulk delivery to their state headquarters, all medallions for the SkillsUSA Championships national medalists will be shipped directly to schools. The boxed school medallion and the winner’s medallion will be packaged together in one box, along with a congratulations letter. Final results for all contests are posted here. Medallions are expected to ship on or about Aug. 1. If you have questions, contact SkillsUSA Customer Care at 844-875-4557 or email customercare@skillsusa.org.

New Theme for 2021-22 Announced

The SkillsUSA theme for the 2021-22 school year is: SkillsUSA: United as One.

The topic will be addressed by contestants in the 2022 SkillsUSA Chapter Display, Prepared Speech and Promotional Bulletin Board competitions. As you prepare for back-to-school, please use the theme artwork if you wish. Download the art and watch the video for the “SkillsUSA: United as One” theme song here.

New National Officers Elected

Six SkillsUSA students were elected as 2021-22 national officers at NLSC. The students were elected at-large; their individual offices will be determined during their training on July 19-26 in Alexandria, Va. The High School division is represented by Ambuja Sharma (Ga.), Caroline Daley (Fla.), Cody Douglas (Mass.), Lindsey Lanman (Texas) and Noa Garcia (Ariz.). The College/Postsecondary division is represented by Christopher Anderson (Mo.). Learn more about the team here. Full bios will also be available at this link soon.

2021 Washington Leadership Training Institute

Join us in person this fall for our 2021 Washington Leadership Training Institute, scheduled for September 18-22. No Zoom meetings, no breakout rooms, no wi-fi connection to worry about, just SkillsUSA students gathering from across the nation to learn and advocate together. The conference will be held at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center hotel, located at 5000 Seminary Rd, Alexandria, VA 22311. Please email WLTI@skillsusa.org with any WLTI-related questions. Watch this page for more information as it becomes available.

APEX Awards for National and State Staff

SkillsUSA staff from the national and state levels were recently awarded “Awards of Excellence” in the annual APEX (Awards for Publications Excellence) competition. From the national headquarters’ Office of Communications, Karen Kitzel (associate director) and Jane Short (senior manager, public relations/communications) earned their joint award in the “Print Media — Catalogs, Directories and Guides” category for the “SkillsUSA State Conference Media Kit” (available on SkillsUSA CONNECT in the state director section). SkillsUSA Massachusetts Director Karen Ward — along with Carol Olsen and Donna McMahon — won in the same category for the “2021 Technical Standards.” Karen also won an Award of Excellence in the “Campaigns, Programs and Plans — Events and Meetings” category for the “Fall State Leadership Virtual Conference Program and Guide.” Congratulations to all!

TikTok “Champions Challenge” Expanded

Our “SkillsUSA Champions Challenge” on TikTok has been expanded to include both the Official Song (“SkillsUSA: Champions at Work”) and the new annual Theme Song (“SkillsUSA: United as One”). Participants just need to submit a short video featuring either (or both) songs. It could be a lip-syncing video, a “story” video, or anything you desire; it just needs to include one or both of the songs as the soundtrack. It’s a great icebreaker activity for your new state officer team. Along with a $100-value “swag bag” from the SkillsUSA Store, the winning entry will now also receive a $100 Amazon gift card! Entries are due by Aug. 7. Find full details on our site.
