Hancock County Technical Center Mentoring

To expose area 8th graders to the educational possibilities that they have while in high school, each CTE program developed a two-hour presentation and hands-on activities that allowed the current CTE students the opportunity to share their trade with interested 8th graders. A survey was done before the day of the visit to help 8th graders chose two of the programs that our school has to offer.

On the day of the visit, 8th graders were first given an over view of our school and the safety requirements for the programs they would be visiting. During both the first and second choice visits, current CTE students explained their trades and help 8th graders through a series of hands on activities to help them better understand the trade. Some of the activities included cake decorating in Culinary Arts, building window boxes in Building Trades, installing hard drives and making network cables in Computer Technology, taking and recording vital signs along with PPE use in Health Occupations, changing tires in Automotive Technology, building an electrical circuit in Diesel Technology, and creating a news report in TV Video Production.

At the end of the day the 8th graders were told when they could apply for the CTE programs and hand a variety of items to take home from the projects they completed during the day.
