Lowe's Grant Guidelines

Currently there are three grant opportunities available through SkillsUSA partnership with Lowe's. The three grant programs include CareerSafe Vouchers, Community Improvement and Community Rebuilding grants. Community Improvement and Community Rebuilding grant projects funded by a Lowe's grant should be unique in nature and engage a quality planning and implementation process, including careful evaluation and reporting upon completion. Your chapter may team up with other schools or civic organizations, but Lowe's and SkillsUSA do not want to merely tag onto other organization's projects or replicate existing national projects or programs. Through theses two grant programs, Lowe's is looking to engage SkillsUSA students and teachers with store staff and local contractors. Developing a relationship between the SkillsUSA chapter or technical school and one or more local Lowe's stores can be a key component of the grant selection process. Your best contacts at a Lowe's store are the store manager, the operations manager and the commercial sales specialists.

CareerSafe Vouchers
CareerSafe vouchers allow students to take an online assessment and earn their OSHA 10-Hour Construction or General Industry safety credential.

Grant Deadline: December 1, 2011
Grants Awarded: January 2012

Community Improvement:
Champions Serving Others

This category is for those schools who are proposing a project that will focus on benefiting their local community or school. In choosing grant winners for the upcoming year, projects that focus on a local need vs. want will stand a greater chance of receiving funding. For this category, a maximum of $10,000 per grant winner will be awarded.

The best projects will be students identifying a school or community need, developing the solution and actively participating in the implementation.

Grant Deadline: November 1, 2011
Grants Awarded: January 2012

Community Rebuilding:
Reaching Out and Partnering

This category brings grant project opportunities to a new level in both funding and building leadership skills! Proposed projects in this category will combine the efforts of two SkillsUSA Chapters partnering and reaching out to help a community or school that has been drastically affected by a natural disaster. One of the partnering chapters may be the beneficiary of the project. The maximum grant in this category will be $25,000 per project. This application will be a joint effort between the two applying chapters and will require input from both chapters. Grant winners in this category will be highlighted on stage at the 2012 NLSC closing ceremonies with a video/photo presentation of their project.

The best projects in this category will be comprised of two components. The first component is the project will be student led. Applications will demonstrate this component by detailing the student's roles and responsibilities for the implementation of the project.

Grant Deadline: November 1, 2011
Grants Awarded: January 2012
