2009 ACTE Trade & Industrial Education Division Awards

Trade and Industrial Educators and Administrators are invited to submit nominations for the ACTE National Trade and Industrial Education Division Awards. Qualified people may be nominated by individuals or groups. You may also nominate yourself. Please inform the person you are nominating.

Champions at Work

Nominees will be contacted by the Trade and Industrial Education Division Awards Committee chairperson regarding the additional information required and the format to be followed. Materials to be submitted will include letters of recommendation, a statement of personal philosophy, photos and supporting evidence such as newspaper clippings, certificates, etc.

Awards will be presented at the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) Convention.

The deadline for nominations is October 15, 2009
Nominees will receive additional information and instructions.

Awards will be given in the following categories:

National Trade and Industrial Education Outstanding Service Award
This award is based upon outstanding service to the field of trade and industrial education. Such service may be of any type or at any level. Nominees may represent education, government, industry and/or any other field where contributions to trade and industrial education are evident. Classroom teachers are not eligible for this award. Nominees must show evidence of significant involvement at local, state and/or national levels.

National Trade and Industrial Education
Outstanding Teacher Award

This award is based upon outstanding contributions as a classroom /lab trade and industrial education teacher. Nominees must be actively teaching in a trade and industrial education area. Nominees should show evidence of excellence in teaching as well as contributions to the field at all levels. Local and state involvement are primary considerations with less emphasis on national contributions than is required for the service award.

The Fred Curry Award (sponsored by Stanley Tools)
This award is based upon outstanding contributions as a classroom/lab trade and industrial education teacher in one of four skilled trades. Nominees must have taught for three consecutive years in one of the four areas prior to nomination date.

a) Automotive Service Technology
b) Automotive Collision Repair
c) Truck or Heavy Equipment Repair
d) Industrial Maintenance

National Trade and Industrial Education
Outstanding New Teacher Award

This award is based upon outstanding contributions as a new trade and industrial classroom teacher. Nominees must be full-time active teachers in a trade and industrial education area. Nominees must have taught for a minimum of three years, but not more than five years. Applicants may be in their sixth year of teaching at the time of application. Age is not a determining factor.

Dr. Ethel M. Smith Memorial Award
The National Association for Trade & Industrial Educators will again present its highest award at the Association for Career & Technical Education /Trade and Industrial Award Ceremony at the December ACTE convention in Orlando. This award recognizes the educator who most exemplifies the qualities of dedication to the professionalism of Trade and Industrial Educators.

Dr. Ethel M. Smith, former Executive Director of NATIE, spent her professional years developing and improving programs of Trade, Industrial, Technical, and Health Occupations. Dr. Smith passed away in 1995, and the NATIE Board of Directors has established this award in her memory. Each year, an educator who most exemplifies Dr. Smith's qualities of dedication to the professionalism of Trade and Industrial Educators, will receive the award.The competition is open to all active, direct, industrial, associate or honorary members of NATIE. The nominee must also be a member of ACTE.
