A. The Why and What of Leadership Development

  • Students will define leadership and identify personal leadership traits.
  • Students will determine their current leadership style.
  • Students will use self-knowledge to develop a leadership mission statement.
  • Students will conclude training with a personal leadership contract outlining leadership growth goals and their commitment to serve as SkillsUSA Ambassadors.

B. Roles and Responsibilities of SkillsUSA Ambassadors

  • Students will develop an evaluation template that reflects their specific responsibilities as a SkillsUSA Ambassador.

C. Organizational Knowledge and Tools

  • Students, as groups, will conduct mini-sessions with peers to describe the following organizational knowledge:
    • History of the organization.
    • Philosophy and mission of SkillsUSA.
    • SkillsUSA Program of Work as a framework for action!
    • SkillsUSA products and materials.

D. Parliamentary Procedure

  • Students will demonstrate effective meeting facilitation by using ground rules, proper brainstorming and parliamentary procedure.

E. Essentials of Effective Presentations

  • Students will identify attributes of positive presentations.
  • Students will organize and deliver a team presentation for a particular audience.
  • Students will effectively use multi-media during presentations.
  • Students will evaluate each others presentations using a group-validated rubric.

F. Process thoughts and feelings effectively

  • Students will identify and employ effective communication skills including active listening, questioning, conversation, and body language.
  • Students will create a state membership campaign to present to their state association director.

G. Explore team work: dynamics, stages, expectations

  • Students will participate in a team project and set a personal team development goal to incorporate in their leadership plan.

H. The social savvy of leaders

  • Students will identify personal stress and types of stress management.
  • Students will meet and greet others throughout training according to SkillsUSA standards.
  • Students will acknowledge diversity by interviewing another leader.

I. Use of a decision making model

  • Students will describe a decision making process.
  • Students will employ a decision making model by planning and conducting a closing celebration activity.
