State Officer 101/201 & Advisor Training

About the Event:
State Officer 101 and 201 Training and Advisor Training is a training opportunity for students and advisors that focuses on leadership development. Offered prior to the National Leadership and Skills Conference, 101 is designed for high school students who are officers of their state associations and students who are interested in becoming state officers.  201 is designed for college/postsecondary students who are officers of their state association and high school state officers who have already attended 101 training. Advisors can also benefit from training that addresses the challenges of advising student leaders. Sessions are designed to be interactive, hands-on in nature and delivered by experienced trainers.

Summary of Activity:
Training is 2.5 days, with 17 hours on task. All sessions are activity-driven with opportunities to assess individual development and reflect on learning. Participants become part of a multi-state work team to complete many objectives. Participants receive a certificate of participation for achieving conference objectives. Training activities will include developing a presentation, team challenges, writing a state plan, giving speeches, holding meetings, completing a leadership contract and attending a celebration event. Advisors will learn to facilitate effective meetings, hold roundtable discussions on the challenges of being a student organization advisor, complete team assignments and participate in networking scenarios with students. Advisors will join students in the celebration event at the end of the conference.

Attendance:
This conference had 117 participants from 17 states in 2004, 142 participants from 20 states in 2005, 158 participants from 18 states in 2006 and 151 Participants from 19 States in 2007.

Cost:
Training costs $125 per person, which includes training materials, a guidebook, certificate of completion, transportation from conference hotels, two lunches, snacks and a celebration event.
