Red Cross Holiday Mail for Soldiers
The Red Cross has established a process to ensure that all cards sent to our service members are safe and arrive in time for the holidays. Holiday cards will be collected through a unique P.O. Box address through Monday, December 7. Cards from across the nation should be sent to the following address:

Every card received is screened by Pitney Bowes and distributed to participating Red Cross chapters nationwide. Once the cards arrive at the Red Cross chapters, they are sorted and reviewed by volunteers who then distribute them to service members, their families and veterans in communities across the country.

2010 Lowe’s Grants Program
SkillsUSA has just announced a continuing partnership with Lowes. As part of their overall grant to SkillsUSA, Lowe’s will be awarding grants to local chapters of up to $10,000 each for community service projects or campus improvement projects conducted during 2010. Read more here.
NTHS Offers Trip to BMW in Germany
The National Technical Honor Society is sponsoring an educational trip to Germany on July 5-12, 2010 for career and technical educators, students and others interested in learning more about international business, its impact on our global economy and future career opportunities in the high-tech, fast-changing transportation industry. The trip will take the group behind the scenes of BMW business operations, manufacturing and training. It also includes comprehensive sightseeing excursions led by expert local guides to Munich, Salzburg, and entrance to Dachau, Neuschwanstein Castle, and the Saltmines. Sponsored by NTHS in conjunction with Education First College Study Tours, the cost is $2,399 for travelers under age 23 and $2,704 for travels older than age 23, and includes transportation from Charlotte, NC as well as some meals, tour guides, entrance fees, etc. Payment plans are available. Get Your SkillsUSA Chapter Involved with MDA
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is interested in partnering with local SkillsUSA chapters. MDA serves hundreds of thousands of children and adults who have over 40 forms of muscle-wasting diseases. MDA’s 200 offices across the country serve local families living with muscle disease and can work with your school to make a difference.
There are lots of fun and rewarding ways in which your students can
become involved with MDA. To continue the SkillsUSA commitment to
leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development, MDA
has opportunities including:
- Volunteering for a week as a counselor at MDA summer camp.
- Youth-based special events and community service fundraising projects
- Help with MDA events like the Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon

SkillsUSA offers a SkillsUSA Certificate of Participation that can be personalized and printed for any student’s employment portfolio. The certificate allows for an advisor signature with check-offs for activities including Program of Work, PDP, community service, competition, committee member or officer. To obtain the SkillsUSA certificate, please visit the Members Only section of the Web site.
