Patriotism Means MoreThan Waving a Flag

Some believe that democracy’s biggest threat doesn’t reside on foreign soil, but right in America, in the form of apathy. To get more young people involved in the democratic process, the National Student/Parent Mock Election, the United States’ largest voter education project, recently partnered with America Online Inc. to facilitate an expanded online voting capability.

The next “mock election” will take place on Nov. 1 and will be open to all 50 states and international locations where Americans are based.

“We will provide electronic ballots for all 50 states and students will be able to vote for governors, senators, representatives and on issues of most concern to the electorate,” says James Vaughn, director of AOL’s E-government and politics.
