New National Awards for Our Materials

APEX Awards logoFour SkillsUSA projects have earned Awards of Excellence in the annual APEX (Awards for Publication Excellence) program:

  • Annual Reports, Electronic and Web: SkillsUSA 2012 Annual Report
  • Magazines and Journals, Print: SkillsUSA Champions
  • Member and Customer Communications: 2012-2013 SkillsUSA Membership Kit
  • Social Media: SkillsUSA’s Twitter Page

APEX awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and overall communications excellence. For 25 years, APEX has judged and presented these awards to professional communicators. Out of about 2,400 total entries this year, only 971 were recognized for outstanding work. Other winners included familiar names such as AARP; The Wall Street Journal; Walt Disney Co.; and Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc.

Leverage, Activate, Engage!

Leverage Activate and EngageEven though most conference participants won’t arrive in Kansas City until Monday or Tuesday, there’s still a lot going on as our the conference contest areas are being prepared for the events of the 2013 SkillsUSA Championships. Of course, registration for conference is in full swing in Bartle Hall.

Probably the biggest event of the day is the beginning of the 2013 Leverage, Activate and Engage conferences. These events are dynamic training sessions for state officers, chapter leaders and advisors. They are sponsored by Lowe’s and State Farm.

ACTE to Host Social Media Day on February 17

ACTE is launching its first Social Media Advocacy day on February 17. ACTE is encouraging members and CTE students to write blogs about the importance of CTE in their community and send a copy of the blog to your policymakers at both the state and federal level as well as ACTE. ACTE will develop messages for members to post on Members of Congress Facebook pages as well as status messages for Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networks. For ACTE Social Media Day, please use the hashtag #careerteched. Additional information will be posted on the ACTE website at www.acteonline.org/ctemonth.aspx.
