CTE Month and SkillsUSA Week Events and Activities

February is Career and Technical Education Month and February 7-11 is SkillsUSA Week. SkillsUSA Week activities are a great way to highlight the good work your state association and local chapters are doing. On February 8th, at 1 p.m. EST, SkillsUSA will be holding a Web conference. The theme will be based on this year’s national theme “Respecting all Perspectives” and will include a SkillsUSA update. All state directors, instructors and members are welcome to participate in the Web conference.

ACTE to Host Social Media Day on February 17

ACTE is launching its first Social Media Advocacy day on February 17. ACTE is encouraging members and CTE students to write blogs about the importance of CTE in their community and send a copy of the blog to your policymakers at both the state and federal level as well as ACTE. ACTE will develop messages for members to post on Members of Congress Facebook pages as well as status messages for Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networks. Broadway Bridge Closure During NLSC 2011

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will remove and replace the Broadway Bridge over I-670 in the southwest corner of the Downtown Loop late this spring and the new bridge won’t be complete until mid-September. Alternate routes into Kansas City from the airport will be posted. Signs will be posted to alert motorists on Broadway and on I-670 regarding ramp closures and their duration. Updated information will be provided through the media, and also available at MoDOT’s Kansas City website, www.modot.org/kansascity. SkillsUSA will provide construction updates and other alternative routes as they become available.

SkillsUSA Alumni-Continue the Journey

SkillsUSA membership is an exciting part of the technical program for many students, and we want to help all program graduates to continue their SkillsUSA experience. SkillsUSA encourages all spring 2011 high school or college graduates to join the SkillsUSA Alumni & Friends Association. We’re extending our offer of free alumni membership to all currently registered members. Alumni Members are sent a membership card, a link to our online magazine, SkillsUSA Champions, a quarterly newsletter, as well as the online Alumni forum. SkillsUSA is working to provide more networking opportunities for alumni and more opportunities for involvement at the local, state and national levels.
