Since this partnership began in 2002, Timberland PRO and SkillsUSA have worked together to engage more than 6,700 students, advisors and alumni who have served over 40,000 total hours improving the greater Kansas City community. Over the years, volunteers and SkillsUSA students have engaged in hands-on activities such as working with facilities for wayward teens, building homes, improving the condition of affordable housing developments, and revitalizing neighborhoods and parks with cleanup activities in the Kansas City area. As an official sponsor of the event, Timberland PRO will be providing funding as well as materials and boots and t-shirts for volunteers.

This year, volunteers will have the opportunity to work on several different service projects, all of which will have a positive impact on the environment in the Kansas City community. SkillsUSA participants will work in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity, Kansas City to build new and rehabilitate existing homes for families in need while adhering to the latest G.R.E.E.N. building standards in the industry. Volunteers, in partnership with Bridging the Gap, the Heartland Tree Alliance, and Kansas City Wildlands, also will make a significant impact through Community Greening Projects designed to revitalize outdoor areas and play space, as well as provide education to local communities on the value of preserving and expanding these spaces.

All projects are developed according to the G.R.E.E.N. standard, which focuses on finding grassroots organizations committed to sustainability, reusing and recycling materials, engaging relative stakeholders, educating participants and forwarding Timberland's goals of carbon neutrality.

Leadership through civic engagement is a shared commitment of SkillsUSA and Timberland PRO. Students attending SkillsUSA's National Leadership and Skills Conference will improve and demonstrate their leadership abilities, and trade skills throughout the week with a variety of contests and workshops.

For the past seven years, Timberland PRO has hosted service events during the conference to provide students hands-on opportunities. Students have applied their skills and provided a direct benefit to the Kansas City community. Timberland PRO embraces the objectives of the conference, and is proud to partner with SkillsUSA to support its efforts. Timberland PRO's support of the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference is one of Timberland's ongoing efforts to encourage volunteerism and community service.

Through volunteer labor and both monetary and material donations, Habitat KC builds and rehabilitates basic, decent houses with the help of partner families in need.
